Earwax Removal Video

In the video, it is seen that the patient with obstruction of the right external ear canal with earwax  (serumen) is cleaned with aspirating. Cleaning the ear by washing it (because the ear can not be judged already due to earwax) should be avoided in patients with ear holes.

It is a safe method of cleaning the ears because the ear aspiration is done by the ENT specialist and without contact with the eardrum. The earbuds can sometimes harden regularly due to the cotton stick and napkin contact, and in this case it may be necessary to use an ear-softening product such as glycerin for one week before the earwax removal.

How to clean earwax?

Normally, the earwax produced in our outer ears is expelled from the external ear canal spontaneously.  Earwax or cerumen secreted from the external ear canal is expelled by itself and it is normal to see fresh earwax covering the external ear canal in the form of a ring during the examination.  Don't be alarmed if you see a brown discharge from your ear after getting out of the bath, or if you see a piece of dark dry ear wax that just randomly falls on your pillow, it's normal.  Normally, we don't need to make a special effort to clean the earwax, but you can consider the following suggestion, which accelerates the removal of earwax and allows the earwax to be cleaned faster: While bathing, we can gently hold warm water, which does not contain shampoo and soap, into our ear, so that water enters from the outer ear canal. .  After the bath is completed, we can place cotton or a napkin horizontally in the external ear canal, tilting our head roughly to facilitate the removal of water and old dirt particles from the outer ear canal together.  After this stage, we can remove the moisture from the outer ear canal by using a hair dryer without putting a cotton swab, napkin or any other object in our ear.  When we hold the hair dryer at a low setting towards our ear for 1-2 minutes, even when we apply the hair dryer towards our ears by lifting the auricle backwards and upwards, the moisture in the ear is removed and the newly produced protective dirt layer remains in the outer ear canal.  In this way, we can facilitate the removal of earwax produced in the past without traumatizing the external ear canal, and at the same time, we can remove the moisture inside our ears.  A big mistake made by the patients is that they mix ear cleaning sticks in the outer ear canal for a long time and deal with various dermatitis-like problems that may arise after the removal of all the protective chemical layer of the outer ear canal and the skin dated.  Some patients apply cortisone products to the tip of cotton swabs and insert them into the outer ear canal, and over time, fungal infections on the outer ear canal skin, bacterial infections may occur, and the thickness of the outer ear canal skin may change.  Cotton ear picks are produced only for cleaning the curved areas of the auricle, the message on the box, in very small letters, please do not insert it through the external ear canal should be taken into account.  Cleaning the earwax by keeping water in the outer ear canal is suitable for patients with normal eardrum and outer ear canal.  It is appropriate for patients with perforation of the eardrum, chronic otitis media, or those who have had ear surgery before, to avoid contact with water from the external ear canal.

Earwax and its Fabulous Missions!

Earwax is a slightly acidic, oily and fragrant body secretion.  It is secreted from the external ear canal and is regularly expelled from the inside to the outside, working as a natural cleaning provider in the ear.  Earwax accumulated in the external ear canal is directed outwards by jaw movements and thrown away.  So, what are the duties of this magnificent epidemic secreted in our ears?  Earwax contains long-chain fatty acids, saturated and unsaturated fatty acid derivatives, alcohol derivatives, squalene cholesterol, and many more.  While freshly secreted earwax is slightly sticky and watery, previously detected and pending earwax is darker and drier.  If we insert an object such as a cotton swab, napkin or paper towel that absorbs the water contained in the earwax into our ear, it may cause the earwax to be dried, sticking forward and accumulating.  We can list the functions of earwax as follows, that is, if we want to summarize what this magnificent secretion secreted in the ear in our body does: Since earwax is oily and sticky, it creates a ring-shaped protective barrier in the outer ear canal, and when water enters our ear from the outside, it is quite difficult to reach the outer ear canal skin. makes it difficult.  Even if the external ear canal is left moist, since its content is acidic and contains substances that slow down fungal growth;  It is very difficult for a fungal infection to occur in the external ear canal in patients with a healthy earwax layer.  In patients who do not have enough earwax in the external ear canal or who regularly traumatize the external ear canal with cotton ear cleaning sticks, fungal infections may start very easily with the contact of alkaline liquids, for example, severe ear itching and a feeling of ear congestion may occur after swimming in the pool. There are substances in earwax that slow down the growth of bacteria and make it harder for viruses to reproduce.  If you are planning to go on vacation and plan to swim for a long time, please do not remove the earwax by mixing your ear. It would be beneficial to have some dirty and covered ear wax in your ear In a normal ear, a thin layer of newly detected earwax should be present.  Thanks to this ring-shaped earwax layer, even if we consciously try to leak water into our ears;  It can make it difficult for water to leak into the ear thanks to the surface tension force-increasing effect of the earwax layer and its barrier effect;  it can even make the contact of water with the skin of the external ear canal very difficult.  Maybe you will never think of it and I would like to talk about another very beneficial effect of earwax.  When people with a normal healthy earwax layer in the outer ear canal, they do it in a grassy environment, the probability of insect entering the outer ear canal or insect entering and laying eggs is very low.  Freshly quenched earwax contains alcohol-derived substances that insects do not like at all, and often contains odors that insects should avoid.  If you like camping and sleeping outside on the ground, do not remove your earwax by inserting objects such as cotton buds, napkins or paper towels into the outer ear canal.
