Septoplasty Operation

In patients with nasal septal deviation (nasal septum separates the nasal cavity) and related nasal obstruction, surgical procedures are performed for septum deviation correction surgery. Septoplasty surgery for nasal septum curvatures is not a surgical procedure for the shape of the nose, but for purely functional reasons. Therefore, no changes in the shape of the nose are observed after the classical closed technique septoplasty operations. The lower part of the nasal septum and the posterior portion of the nasal septum are in the form of a bone. During the removal of these sections, metal tools called "guj" and hammer are used. The instruments you can see on the surgical table prepared before the side septoplasty surgery include nasal belt rasps or "osteotomes" which are used to break the nasal bone. After this brief information, I would like to briefly answer the following questions from you:

Can bruises occur after septoplasty operation?

Since no bruise is performed after septoplasty operations, there is no bruising around the eyes.

Is an external nasal splint used after septoplasty operation?

No nasal splint is used and no nasal bandage is performed since no nasal bone is performed during septoplasty operations.

Will be swelling seen after septoplasty operation?

When septoplasty operations are performed alone, there is no swelling on the nasal bone because there is no crushing or filing. However, a small amount of nasal edema may occur depending on the silicone placed inside the nose and the process within the nose. If open technique septoplasty operation is performed, only edema in the nose tip region can be seen.

Does the nose shape change after septoplasty operation?

Since the nasal bone is not touched, when the removal of limited septal cartilage is performed, there is no change in the shape of the nose after deviation surgery. When open technique septoplasty is performed, temporary edema at the tip of the nose after surgery and the forward or upward direction of the tip of the nose may be noticed.
