Preparation Before and After Rhinoplasty Is Very Important
Before the rhinoplasty operation, it is very important to prepare the materials to be used, antibiotic intranasal washing solutions, various suture materials and metal instruments.
Generally, we inject a local anesthetic into the nose before the operation and start the operation approximately 20-30 minutes later. It is very important to lower the blood pressure level of the patient, to monitor the carbon dioxide level, and to give a cortisone cocktail before the operation on the nasal bone. Each surgeon may have their own different preparation techniques. Before the operation, I prefer to irrigate the inside of the nose of our patients with solutions containing sterile serum + rifampicin.
Ice Application Techniques at Home After Nose Aesthetics Operation
You will stay in the hospital for the first night after the rhinoplasty operation and the ice application will be made to you by the nurses in the hospital. However, it may be appropriate to apply ice until the 3rd day after discharge. You can apply the following methods to apply cold to the face area at home:
- After covering your face with a cloth, you can put ice in two refrigerator bags, tie them together, and apply them to both eyes and cheeks, creating a symmetrical pressure. Although the duration is controversial; It can be done with 30 minutes of ice and 1 hour of break.
- You can buy two disposable gloves, fill them with ice and tie them together. You can place these gloves on both eye and cheek areas to create a symmetrical print as above.
- you can sit in an upright position by bringing the temperature of the room you are in to a maximum of 10 to 15 degrees
- if the air temperature is also below 15 degrees, you can go outside and walk for more than 1 hour, so that you can contact the cold wind on your face.
After the rhinoplasty operation, there is a system (Hilotherapy System) that provides a constant temperature cold application to the face and has an apparatus placed on the face in the form of a mask.
Long-term application of only ice can be harmful!
After rhinoplasty, it is ideal to apply cold to the face area intermittently. Although this application period is controversial and varies between clinics; It is ideal not to apply ice for more than 30 minutes and to take a break of 30 or 60 minutes after 30 minutes of application. Already a few minutes after the ice is applied to the face, the ice starts to melt and cold application is made at an increasing temperature. Long-term subzero cold application may cause circulatory dysfunction and adversely affect healing. Please take your surgeon's recommendations into consideration in this regard.
Why is cold application applied after rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty operation is a surgical procedure after all, and it is normal to experience a healing process that results in swelling and bruising after tissue trauma during this procedure. Local cold application reduces the diameter of the vessels in this region, reduces edema and pain. Normally, when we hit our arm or leg on a hard surface, the application of elevation and cold is also valid when surgical intervention is performed on the nose with the same logic. In other words, it is necessary to elevate the head and keep it above the level of the heart as much as possible, and to cool the traumatized nose area.
