Technical Detail of External Strut Graft Method

I have published links to the "External Strut Graft Method", a simple nose type lifting method that can be done with septoplasty surgery, and explain how to do it (see "similar links" below) in patients with septum deviations that cause breathing difficulties in the nose. A wedge-shaped cartilage 0.5x2 cm or 0.5x1.5 cm in size, which is removed from the nasal septum cartilage in the nose, is inserted into the nose tip by opening a tunnel after a 5 mm vertical incision made in columella (vertically placed in columella at midline). 

Advantages of Nose Tip Lifting With External Strut Graft Technique

I prefer to do external strut grafting in patients who have complaints of nasal obstruction due to nasal septum deviation, nasal tip drooping, nose drop when smiling or laughing, which should be in general deviation surgery. In this method, the patient is placed in the tunnel of the patient's own cartilage nasal tip (the area with the red line in the photo above), 2 or 3 absorbable stitches to the incision area of ​​about 5 mm long at the tip of the nose (yellow arrow in the photo above) projections increase) and goes upwards. In this way, a few benefits are achieved:

• curved cartilage region is used for nasal support instead of being discarded
• nose support increases and nose drops are treated when laughing
• the nose moves forward and the airway resistance decreases as the nasal valve area of ​​the narrow nasal airway
• the result is permanent after healing
• the nose skin is not completely removed and there is nasal edema in a limited amount after the procedure
