Bloodless Lingual Frenectomy: Another Successful Case Performed Safely

Bloodless Tongue Tie Operation With Thermal Welding System

In the above patient, there were complaints of decay formation on the inner surfaces of the lower teeth, notching when fully raised at the tongue end, and a decrease in speech clarity when speaking rapidly. In order to reduce the possibility of re-adhesion after the classical " tongue tie operation"  which was completed only by incision; the triangular shaped tongue tie tissue (frenulum) removal is performed. We performed this procedure in the hospital operating room under local anesthesia with thermal welding device. The incision line  was sutured in the vertical plane of mutual wound edges so that the patient was able to see the result of the procedure directly and to avoid as far as possible the reclosing of the tongue tie in the horizontal plane. The above and below photos have sub-lingual views before and after the transaction. The tip of the tongue looks more pointed after the procedure (because the diamond-shaped wound site is sutured in the vertical plane).

About Permanent Anatomical Changes Associated with Tongue Tie

Articulation problems, dental problems, and problems with the jaw joint can occur in adult patients due to a tongue tie. Until adulthood, the tongue tie restricts tongue movement, which can severely affect the palate and jaw. The patient I'm sharing with you here had a narrow and arched palate. This surgery cannot reverse the effects of the palate and jaw. Permanent anatomical effects are less common after tongue tie surgery performed at an early age, before the jawbones have fully developed. Similarly, structural changes in the tongue cannot be reversed solely through tongue tie surgery. Over time, the tongue becomes shorter and thicker than normal, the lower jaw remains small, and the retrolingual air space becomes narrower than normal. Patients in this way are predisposed to sleep apnea for life.
