We Performed Again "African American Rhinoplasty"

Black Thick Skinned Nose Job

In the video above and in the photos below, you can find preoperative and postoperative images of a patient who underwent an ethnic and thick skin rhinoplasty operation.

Our African patients generally have the following different nasal features:

- rather thick and oily nasal skin features
- flat and wide nostrils
- big nostril
- round nose tip
- flat and flat nasal belt

These features are not found in every patient in African countries, although some nasal bone is not flattened; While the tip of the nose may be flat; Although some do not have very thick nasal skin, they can have very soft and weak cartilage features.

African American Rhinoplasty
According to these features, the following procedures and applications can be performed in ethnic rhinoplasty operations, different from classical rhinoplasty operations:

- Supporting the tip of the nose with cartilage grafts as much as possible and structuring the nasal support tissue, In thin skinned noses, weakening of the cartilages does not cause much problems; In thick skinned noses, heavy nose wing and nose tip may cause sagging at the tip of the nose or collapse in the nose wings. Even if some patients have primary ethnic rhinoplasty; Additional cartilage grafts may be required from rib cartilage or auricle cartilage.

- No dead space between cartilages as much as possible. Especially in patients with oily and thick skin features, the amount of subcutaneous edema may increase.

- bilateral skin dissection and subcutaneous tissue removal for thinning of the skin. Although this is a controversial technique; I apply it in all ethnic rhinoplasty operations. There is no surgical application that can permanently reduce skin thickness.

- As little reduction of the nasal arch as possible. The reduction of the nasal arch may cause a flatter and flatter nose, especially in patients with a flattened nose.

- Filling the nasal root with cartilage membrane, cartilage powder or subcutaneous tissue.

- Alar base resection to reduce the nostrils

The patient I am sharing on this page, all of these techniques have been done and it is normal for the patient to have edema on the nose due to surgical trauma. At the tip of the nose, self-melting suture materials fixing the underlying small cartilage grafts are seen.
