Symptoms of Middle Ear Infection in Children

Acute Otitis Media (AOM) in Children

Otitis media is an infectious disease (mostly in the second year of life) in children aged 6 months to 6 years.
In the middle ear, infection usually occurs following viral upper respiratory tract infections.

Where does middle ear microbes come from?

It has been shown that the esophagus escapes from the Eustachian tube to the middle ear, which causes air to flow between the middle ear and the nasal space, and to escape the germ.

In other words, in children with otitis media, it is thought that these microbes spread from the nasal region to the ear.

What Are the Symptoms of Middle Ear Infection?

In a child, middle ear infections may occur when the following symptoms occur:

- Earache
- Fever
- Restlessness
- Touching with hands to the ear
- Hearing loss
- Inflammation of the ear - bloody discharge

High-fever may not be seen when middle ear infections are caused by viruses. However, it is not necessary to have middle ear inflammation in every child who handles the ear; ear wax and middle ear fluid accumulation (serous otitis media) in children with the disease of the hearing or mixing request may occur.

Sometimes, only the inflammatory ear discharge and no other symptoms may occur in children. If the eardrum is perforated as a result of middle ear inflammation and the purulent discharge is discharged from the middle ear to the outer ear, symptoms such as ear pain, peace and fever present in the patient may be reduced.

What are the protective measures for middle ear infection?

Acute Otitis Media (AOM)

It is important to take the following precautions for otitis media:

- Keeping the child away from children with upper respiratory tract infections, crowded settings and smoking
- In children from the nursery or school, besides hand and face wash; rinse

It is very difficult for middle ear infections to be prevented in working mother and father children who have to go to nursery environments where there are especially sick children.
