Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Therapy For Chronic Tinnitus

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Therapy

For the last 15 years, non-invasive magnetic therapy therapy has been tried for tinnitus (tinnitus), which is one of the issues in which we are insufficient to understand and treat its causes.

In this method, called transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy, magnetic waves are sent to the brain at short intervals. TMS has been approved since 2009 for patients with major depression and at least one antidepressant treatment. Recent studies have reported depression and anxiety disorders in 12% of people with chronic tinnitus. Although it is emphasized that TMS treatment may be useful in patients with depression and tinnitus, it has been reported that no anesthesia or sedation is required and mild headache or tingling of the scalp can be seen with simple painkillers after the procedure. Last "Clinical Practice Guideline for Tinnitus" recommended against transcranial magnetic stimulation for the routine treatment of patients with chronic bothersome tinnitus. Neuronavigated Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) was found as effective for chronic tinnitus for up to 6 months (source >> Neuronavigated Versus Non-navigated Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation for Chronic Tinnitus: A Randomized Study)

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) gives strong electromagnetic stimulation to reduce brain's neural activity. Because tinnitus is believed to be a function of hyperactivity in the brain's neural cortex, many researchers believe that such stimulation can reduce the perception and severity of tinnitus. Preliminary research data on rTMS for treatment of chronic tinnitus has yielded mixed results (source >> Experimental Therapies | American Tinnitus Association).

If you are looking for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Therapy in Istanbul, you can find different clinics on the internet. I'm not doing it for now. There is more than one factor in the etiology of tinnitus, which is controversial and difficult to treat. In patients with nerve damage in the inner ear, it is impossible for this damage to be reversed. However, medical treatment of the underlying cause of additional tinnitus in patients with a biochemical problem such as hypertension, hyperthyroidism, hypercholesterolemia, anemia ... is also helpful in the treatment. Most of the tinnitus medications that can be administered orally to patients are controversial about providing adequate effect.
