In patients who have undergone rhinoplasty operation before, we can sometimes make the nose more functional and cosmetic with a lot of intervention. Of course, planning the second revision rhinoplasty surgery is more complicated and more difficult than the primary rhinoplasty operation. The patient I shared with you here, you can look at the pre- and post-operative images of the patient, who had a nasal aesthetic operation in a different clinic about a year and a half ago, and who had sagging at the tip of the nose and a long appearance in the nose after the operation. We performed the secondary revision rhinoplasty operation.

What is a secondary rhinoplasty operation?

Secondary rhinoplasty or 2nd revision nose job are surgical and aesthetic interventions performed on patients who have previously undergone aesthetic nose surgery and have not achieved adequate results in terms of aesthetics or functionality. Generally, the possibility of revision rhinoplasty is higher in patients with crooked nose deformity, curved nose, deviated nose or scoliotic nose deformity, excessively thick skin or ethnic nose features.

Is revision rhinoplasty common?

In general, 10% of all rhinoplasty operations have the possibility of revision rhinoplasty. Major deformity, degree of asymmetry and complicated rhinoplasty requirement are only about 2-3% among them.

Surgery also means "risk" and each surgery has risks associated with the procedure itself. Even the best aesthetic nose surgeons in the world have patients who need revision rhinoplasty. The possibility of revision decreases if the surgical experience, the use of appropriate techniques and the proper care of the patients. Simple revision rhinoplasty operation is performed more frequently as in the above patient.

How soon can you have a revision rhinoplasty?

Generally, it is ideal to wait at least 6 months after the first rhinoplasty operation. This period can be approximately 1 year or more after thick skin and complicated rhinoplasty operations. Performing rhinoplasty while in the recovery period may cause the surgeon to make the wrong decision during the operation and increase the risk of postoperative complications.

Why revision rhinoplasty more expensive?

The operation time is generally longer in revision rhinoplasty operations and tissue dissection is more difficult. In addition to the excessive effort of the surgeon, revision rhinoplasty operations are generally more expensive than primary aesthetic nose surgeries, depending on factors such as the use of grafts such as rib cartilage, auricle cartilage, and temporal muscle fascia for the nasal reconstruction of the patient.

Revision rhinoplasty operation without nasal packing

In some revision rhinoplasty operations, it is not necessary to place any packing into the nose when the nasal septum or turbinates are not performed in the nose. Most of the cartilage grafts used in revision rhinoplasty operations are obtained from the nasal septum.
