Apparatus Made of Soft Silicone That Prevents Nostril Deformation: Nostril Retainer
Nostril retainer is made of soft silicone that does not harm the human body. It is used to correct or reconstruct the shape of the nose by placing it inward through the nostrils. The raw material of the device is "silicone gum". This product prevents the deformation or collaps of the nostrils after the nose aesthetic surgery, nasal valve operation and for cleft lip or palate surgery.
There are standard and long types, the long type can also be used by cutting.
This product is different from standard nasal snoring apparatus!
On the internet, there are various products that are placed in the nose, expand the nasal airway, nasal valve expander, plastic or hard silicone. These products are not nostril retaners and may not be suitable for prolonged use or regular insertion into the nose.
Nostril Retainer Indications
- Preoperative Use: "Nostril Retainer" can be applied in the correction of alar cartilage in the cleft lip nose.
- Post-operative Use: "Nostril Retainer" is used to shape, correct and restructure the nostrils after cleft lip / palate or rhinoplasty and nose enlargement surgeries.
Warning About Nostril Retainer Using
If the product is to be removed and reattached, it is removed from the nose and washed first and then sterilized using one of the sterilization methods.

3- The device can be removed from the nose by holding it from the outside middle part of the device.
Points To Be Considered During Use
a) Any dirt sticking to the device or remaining between the device and the inner surface of the nose may interfere with the configuration of the nose, so the device should be cleaned well.
b) The device may be deformed due to patient use. For this reason, the device should be replaced with a new one at least once a month.
Nostril Retainer Usage
1- The size suitable for the patient's nose should be used.
a) When deciding on the size of the device to be used, it would be best to use the "Nasal Retainer Trial Apparatus" offered separately from the device. Because there is no possibility to try the actual device.
b) Do not ever think of cutting one of the right or left arms of the device. Otherwise, the device may slide behind the nose or there may be a situation that prevents you from breathing.

The product should not be bent during washing or sterilization. Otherwise, it may not sit on the nose as deformed and may fall.
Nostril Retainer Usage Time
The usage period is 30 days from the day the box is opened and used. The duration of Nostril Retainer usage can be changed according to your doctor's recommendation. I generally recommend it to be used for 30-90 days in patients presenting from different clinics due to severe nasal valve problem or nostril stenosis.
Single Sided Nostril Retainer Usage!
If you see asymmetry between the nostrils when you use the nostril retainer bilaterally for a few weeks regularly, you can place the nostril retainer unilaterally on the smaller side. You can use the Nostril retainer unilaterally as a nostril expander, please consult your surgeon for this use.

How to Use Nostril Retainer?
As you can see in the video above and the photos below, this apparatus, which is placed inside the nose, does not have to go completely into the nose at first. As in this patient, especially in patients with a narrow nostril structure, the apparatus can be placed tightly for the first few days, as the nostrils will be slightly wider after a few days and the edema will decrease more, so the apparatus can usually be placed enough to enter the nose. Its regular wearing for the first 1 month will be beneficial in terms of stabilizing the cartilages in the nasal valve region, supporting the nostrils and eliminating the edema equally. Since these apparatus are in various sizes, it is ideal to wear whatever size is appropriate before placing them in the nose. Generally, small-sized ones may have breathing problems because the hole will be narrow. As seen in this video and the photos below, the apparatus, which is usually in the shape of a funnel and has a notch in it, can stay in place without slipping in the nose. However, when retainer apparatus with cylindrical shape and wider air hole is placed in the nose by applying pomade, there is a possibility that it will slide down on its own, therefore, it may be appropriate to fix it with a U-shaped tape on the tip of the nose after insertion.
