Bruising and Swelling After Nose Aesthetic Operation
Bone cutting, bone hump reduction or hemup resection performed to shape the nasal bone in rhinoplasty operations cause an open bone wound. For this reason, blood leakage under the skin and bruising around the eyes, especially in the first few days after the operation. Both intervention to the bone structure and tissue dissection cause an increase in edema along with bruising around the nose.
I would like to share with you the following mistakes that may cause an increase in the bruising around the eyes of the patients:
The first 3 days are very important
In the first 3 days after the rhinoplasty operation, bruising and swelling usually occur around the eyes, and then the recovery period begins. Especially in these first 3 days, patients should be in a cold environment, if bruises increase around the face, they should apply ice and remain in an upright sitting position (in order to reduce blood pressure in the head area). Acting contrary to these recommendations in the first 3 days (being in a warm environment, resting in the bed, exercising by tilting to increase the blood pressure in the head ...) may cause an increase in bruising and swelling around the face.
Lying position errors!
It is important to lie on the bed at a 45 degree angle for the first 3 weeks after the rhinoplasty operation and to sit upright as much as possible during the day-rest period. In this way, while blood pressure decreases in the head area; It also reduces the possibility of head turning sideways during deep sleep, causing a trauma to the nose. Some patients may use an airplane passenger pillow (C-shaped pillow) to protect the nose from mechanical trauma, however, lying horizontally may cause an increase in facial importance and bruising!
Medication errors!
Some of the medications I recommend to you after rioplasty operation include various vitamins, antibiotics and painkillers in order to clean the inside of the nose, some to moisten the inside of the nose and others to accelerate the recovery. We generally do not recommend a pain reliever that has a blood-thinning effect, and many pain relievers other than paracetamol have blood-thinning properties such as aspirin. Using drugs such as aspirin can cause increased bleeding and bruising. Again, insufficient application of intranasal care recommendations may cause nasal and facial edema to take a long time. Please use the recommended medications regularly and do not use any other medication without consulting your doctor.
Nutrition errors!
Especially spicy, hot, salt foods may cause increased bruising and edema around the eyes after rhinoplasty operation. Again, it is important to consume unshelled herbal products, salads and fresh fruits and vegetables to prevent constipation.
Closing mouth when sneezing!
Internal silicone splints placed in the nose can touch the nose hair and cause sneezing in patients. Please sneeze with your mouth open. Closing the mouth while sneezing can cause serious increase in intranasal pressure, increase in swelling and bruising, and even nosebleeds.
A few suggestions for edema and bruising around the eyes
Delay exercises and activities done by leaning on the ground!
There is a risk of nosebleeds, especially in the first 10 days. In this turn, instead of leaning to the ground as much as possible; It is the ideal practice to get something from the ground by breaking the knees. Again, in the form of heavy lifting by leaning on the ground, exercises should be started after more than 1 month as possible.
Intense contact with sunlight in the early period!
After the rhinoplasty operation, do not rush to sunbathe in the coastal areas. Especially in the first 3 weeks, you should protect your nose from the sun. Contact with sunlight for the first 10 days may cause edema and bruising around the face and eyes to increase.
Please wait for the sauna and hammam!
Especially in the first weeks after the rhinoplasty operation, contact with hot areas such as sauna may cause an increase in the importance of the nose and nose bleeding. The sauna is much more harmful in the first week after the operation.
After rhinoplasty, entering hot environments such as saunas and hammams or increasing the room temperature, lifting heavy loads by bending over the floor, any exercise activity that may cause an increase in blood pressure may increase the current nosebleeds. During the first 3 days, dripping and leaking nosebleeds are normal; When the mistakes written above are made, this bleeding can become much more severe.
Eye bruising on the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th days after the rhinoplasty operation
In the patient who underwent open technique revision rhinoplasty, edema and bruises around the nose are observed on the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th days after the operation. |
As seen in the photo above, at the end of the first week, the bruise around the eyes curves towards the greenish color. What you see here are normal healing properties.
Which patients have more bruising after rhinoplasty operation?
There may be more bruising and edema around the eyes after the operation, especially in patients with excessive nasal hump and hump resection, patients who have had more than one bone cutting procedure on the nasal bone, and who have undergone complicated rhinoplasty surgery for a long time. However, the recovery, bleeding and tension characteristics of the patient are also effective in this situation.
