Surgical Correction of Prominent Ears
There are many surgical techniques defined for prominent ear aesthetics (otoplasty, auriculaplasty, protruding ear surgery, pinnaplasty) in patients with prominent ear deformity and who want to treat this aesthetically. You can find the details of these techniques in similar links at the end of this link.
Among the techniques defined for the purpose of prominent ear correction, I prefer the modified technique toplasty operation most frequently. In the patient I shared with you here, the following procedures were applied for prominent ear aesthetics:
- ellipsoid skin resection behind the ear
- rebuilding of the antihelical angle by using self-melting stitches on the auricle cartilage, which is softened with the help of a scalpel
- conchomastoid suture
- the stitching of the skin incision at the end
All suture materials used here are self-melting and there is no risk of reoccurrence of prominent ear defomit asymmetrically after the suture material comes out of the crotch from the ear braces after the healing is completed or the suture loosens. The operation time is longer than the otoplasty operation performed with the classical sewing technique, and after this operation, a printed ear bandage is performed.

Since our patient especially wanted an auricle that is not very adhered to the head and looks natural, care was taken not to stick to the auricle too much.
