The Tip of the Nose May Appear Upturned in the First Week After Rhinoplasty!
The tip of the nose, which sometimes appears abnormally upturned in photographs taken on the operating table immediately after rhinoplasty, may cause anxiety in patients. Many of our patients want a natural nose that is compatible with the face. The reasons why the tip of the nose looks very raised right after the rhinoplasty operation:
- sutures placed on the tip of the nose and anterior part of the septum
- nasal tip edema
- having silicone splints placed in the nose
- excessive reduction of the supratip region
- placing more cartilage grafts on the tip of the nose
When you consider the factors listed above, remember that your surgeon usually tries to obtain a suitable nose for you, and the downward and backward movement of the tip of the nose will inevitably occur during the recovery period.
Why is the tip of the nose usually more raised after rhinoplasty?
Especially in thick-skinned noses, surgeons know the risk that the supratip area and the tip of the nose may be filled with soft subcutaneous tissue and edema after the operation, and therefore the tip of the nose may appear low downwards. Therefore, especially in thick-skinned noses, the tip of the nose can be seen more elevated and the supratip region more reduced after rhinoplasty. In patients with thick skin structure, there may be a serious difference between the postoperative and a few months after the operation. You can check out Rhinoplasty 1 month vs 5 Months for a good example of this. You can see how different the nose photos of the female patient I shared on this link are right after rhinoplasty and 5 months later. You can see the photos showing that the supratip area is filled during the healing process and the tip of the nose moves backwards and downwards at this link. During the healing process after rhinoplasty, the position of the nose tip may change.
Even after 7 days, the tip of the nose started to look more natural!
Below are the images of the patient with thick skin and crooked nose, immediately after rhinoplasty and 1 week after rhinoplasty. In the first week, the sutures in the caudal septum area close to the tip of the nose begin to dissolve, the supratip area and the tip of the nose swell, leading downwards and a more natural appearance at the tip of the nose.
In the first week photographs of our patient, it can be noticed that the bruises around the eyes and on the face have decreased, and these areas are still swollen.
Sometimes pig-like nose appearance can occur as a complication
After a rhinoplasty, it is possible for the nose to have a pig-like appearance if certain complications or undesirable outcomes occur. Here are a few possible reasons why this could happen:
Over-resection of nasal tip: If too much tissue is removed from the nasal tip during the surgery, it can result in a shortened and upturned appearance, resembling a pig-like nose.
Poorly performed surgery: Inexperienced surgeons or surgical errors can lead to unsatisfactory results. If the surgery is not performed properly, it can cause an unnatural or unbalanced appearance, including a pig-like nose.
Inadequate healing or scar tissue formation: Sometimes, the healing process after a nose job can lead to the formation of excess scar tissue or fibrosis. This can distort the shape of the nose and potentially contribute to a pig-like appearance.
If you're experiencing concerns about the outcome of your nose job and believe it has resulted in a pig-like appearance, it's crucial to consult with a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon or otolaryngologist. They will be able to evaluate your specific situation and provide appropriate advice or recommend potential corrective procedures.
