Treatment of Nasal Septum Deviation

Septoplasty Operation

Treatment of deviated nasal septum

In people with nasal obstruction due to deviation of the nasal septum, there is no correction of curved cartilage in the nose by medical treatment. Drugs such as nasal sprays for nasal flesh growth are not effective in correcting cartilage in the nasal septum. For the treatment of nasal septum deviation, the procedure that involves removing the curved cartilage areas and making the septum flat in the midline is called "septoplasty operation". These operations, which are usually performed through the nostrils, can be performed endoscopically or by open technique.

Treatment of Nasal Septum Deviation
In the photo above, deviation towards the left, close to the caudal part of the nasal septum, is seen. Especially in nasal septum deviations close to the nasal valve area, nasal obstruction may be more.

Septoplasty is performed for the treatment of septum deviations due to the protection of the septum deviation from the negative health effects of the patients who have undergone septoplasty operation, elimination of problems related to nasal congestion and the lasting effect of the successful deviation operation (turbinate radiofrequency decreasing after the turbinate radiofrequency reducing procedures).

Treatment of Nasal Septum Deviation - Septoplasty Operation

Patients with septum deviation may have one or more of the following criteria:

• One or both nasal obstruction
• Nasal swelling (sometimes unilateral)
• Frequent nosebleeds
• Frequent sinus infections
• Sometimes face pain, headache, postnasal drops
• Noisy breathing during sleep (infants and young children)

Septoplasty Operation, Rhinoplasty and Nose Tip Plasty Surgery Can Be Done Together With!

Nasal aesthetic surgery and septoplasty surgery can be performed at the same time in patients with nasal septum deviation, who have aesthetic problems in the nose. In some patients, nose tip plasty and septoplasty can be performed simultaneously. The septum cartilages extracted in these surgeries for the treatment of septum deviation can be used as supportive tissue or filling material to different parts of the nose during nasal aesthetic surgery.

How is Septoplasty Operation Performed?

Septoplasty is a surgical procedure performed through the nostrils, so there is no bruising or external signs (swelling and edema of the tip of the nose when open technique is performed). Surgery can be combined with rhinoplasty, where the external appearance of the nose changes, and swelling / bruising of the face occurs. Septoplasty can also be combined with sinus surgery.

How Many Minutes Does Septoplasty Operation Last?

Depending on the deviation rate, the time required for the procedure may range from about 20 min to 1 hour. Generally, the processing time does not exceed 30 minutes. It can be performed with local or general anesthesia and is usually performed as an outpatient. After surgery, tamponade can be applied into the nose to prevent excessive postoperative bleeding. During surgery, badly deviated portions of the septum can be completely removed or curved cartilages can be re-corrected and inserted into the nose. Patients with nasal septum deviation surgery may be discharged when the procedure is completed for 4 hours after the anesthesia has passed.

Treatment of Septum Deviation in Children

Treatment of Septum Deviation in Children
In children, septum deviation can be confused with other causes of nasal obstruction, such as adenoid hypertrophy and allergic rhinitis. Nasal growth continues during the period of growth and lengthening of the skull and the nasal septum continues to grow in the same way. Occasionally, septum deviations following trauma may become more pronounced as children grow older.

Septoplasty Operation in Children

Nasal bone curvature in children is usually not performed before the age of 18 and cartilage curvature operations, including limited removal of cartilage tissue, can be performed in patients with severe nasal obstruction and severe nasal obstruction complaints. Certain points of the nasal septum are considered to be nasal growth points and are intended to reduce the risk of injury to these points during surgery.

There is no "Natural Herbal Treatment" or "Non-surgical Solution With Massage" for Nasal Septum Deviation Treatment!

It is not possible to correct the curvatures of the nasal septum with a herbal treatment or external massage. In other words, "natural herbal remedy for nasal cartilage curvature" or "treatment of nasal bone curvature by massage" is both unscientific and incompatible with reality. Conversely, when pressed on a regular nose, the amount of cartilage curvature can be varied.

Percent Swelling and Bruising After Septoplasty Operation?

After classical closed technique septoplasty operations, there is no swelling and bruising around the face and eyes except the nose. Internal silicone splints placed inside the nose may make the nose look wider than normal. When open technique septoplasty is performed, swelling may be seen at the tip of the nose and again there is no bruising around the eyes.
